The next time you travel Route 315, plan a few minutes to stop by the 315 Donut Shoppe. Inside you’ll find friendly faces, comfortable chairs, hot coffee, and Krispy Kreme donuts that are always fresh.
Co-owners Jennifer Stroud and Liza Kashnicki are sisters who will celebrate the Shoppe’s third anniversary in February.
Its bustling location– at the intersection of Route 315 and Old Boston Road–was one of the positive selling points that caused Jennifer and Liza to take the plunge into business for themselves.
“I’ve always been interested in the coffee shop, café vibe,” explained Liza. “Our parents are self-employed, so starting our own business is sort of in our blood. Besides, who is better to start a business with than your sister?”
There isn’t much downtime for either owner, with the Donut Shoppe open from 5 a.m.-10 p.m. weekdays, plus Saturday. On Sunday, the Shoppe is open 6 a.m.-9 p.m..
“We are here a lot so we wanted a very welcoming atmosphere that reflects our personalities and a staff that’s very friendly,” explained Jennifer. “We wanted the Shoppe to appeal to everybody, from the truck driver on his route to a group of friends stopping by to relax, chat, and have something to eat.”
Fresh donuts are the first thing you see upon entering the Shoppe, but there is much more. Muffins, bagels, and Jennifer’s homemade biscotti are available, as well as soup. Liza, a self-proclaimed coffee lover, is responsible for the Shoppe’s own blend of coffee. In addition, patrons can select from the espresso bar, lattes, and a variety of assorted chai teas– iced, hot, and blended– as well as hot chocolate and frozen smoothies.
From March through October, the restaurant offers soft service ice cream, Italian ice, gelati, milk shakes, blended iced coffees, and a signature menu item called the 315 Drif– a layered donut and ice cream treat covered with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles.
“It’s an item that’s best shared with a friend,” Jennifer explained.
“Owning the restaurant has changed our lives for the better,” Liza added.
“Seeing and interacting with people every day enriched my life,” Jennifer said. “On good and bad days, I’m still glad that we have the restaurant.”
