An open workshop sits just a few feet behind the lively sales counter at The Village II Gold & Silversmith, Inc.– a sign of confident craftsmanship and a level of trust that many look for when shopping for a jeweler.
Owners Ron and Paula Sorick operate the business in Wyoming. Paula focuses on the sales side, while Ron handles all repairs on-site.
“It’s open for a reason,” Paula said. “We have people who come in and want to talk to the person who is working on their piece. He’s not hidden in some back room. Leaving his work area in the open was key when designing this space. Customers realize their jewelry is not leaving the premises.”
Ron’s uncle opened the original Village Gold & Silversmith in the Poconos region, a full-service store where he did repairs in addition to making and selling jewelry. Ron’s father, John, learned the craft of jewelry repair from his brother.
In 1989, John independently opened The Village II in Wyoming, near the 8th Street Bridge. The second generation of Soricks took over in 2004 and in 2009 decided to move to its current location.
“When we moved, our goal was to change the visual look of the store to an actual jewelry store even though the repair is the mainstay of our business,” Paula explained. “We didn’t want to lose that comfy, cozy feeling of a jewelry store.”
Multiple jewelry cases and a seating area were added to the current location, along with a large space for Ron’s workshop.
The Soricks carry a full line of 14kt yellow and white gold items, as well as sterling silver jewelry. Diamonds, gemstones, Bulova watches, necklaces, engagement rings, and wedding bands are also available at The Village II.
“We take pride in the comfort our customers feel in our work– even those who have moved away– as they return to us for service that can’t be found in just any city repair shop,” Paula concluded.
The Village II Gold & Silversmith is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, call (570) 693-5910 or visit www.thevillageii.com.
