Mountain Top is most ably noted for its elevation of 1,568 feet, but the position of this progressive community, as it sits three miles south of Wilkes-Barre and half-way to Hazleton, could certainly stake a claim for the naming rights. |

For many years, West Pittston was known as “The Garden Village”— an appropriate slogan for the community, especially in generations past. Nestled in the heart of the anthracite coal-mining region, West Pittston had more small mills and shops, with a higher percentage of white-collar, residential neighborhoods than its neighboring communities. |

News stories about the City of Scranton’s financial problems, city employees being paid minimum wage, and rifts between Mayor Chris Doherty and City Council have not painted a pretty picture of the city. But these stories don’t tell the true story of Scranton. They don’t tell of the renovation and rehabilitation, the new businesses, and the ones that have been in the city for decades. They don’t tell the story of a city that was named as the Number One city in 2011’s “10 Best Places to Start Over” by MSN Real Estate. |
