The Graham Academy is a school that specializes in educating children with Autism (PDD) and children with emotional challenges.
When you step into the Graham Academy, you feel that something terrific is happening. Beautiful, hand-painted murals and engaging, natural photographs from around the world adorn the school.
At the Graham Academy, education is a journey of discovery, in which students are given opportunities to explore their world with support and structure provided by 16 dedicated staff members. Children enter the school with the ability to find fulfillment in an environment that treats each child as an individual and as someone who has value. Students are given tangible ways to experience being a part of the community. They fulfill important jobs such as helping with lunch, cleaning up the classroom, working in the garden, and counseling peers.
In addition to the goals in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), students are taught how to cook, work on computers, ride horses, recycle, play sports, and understand emotions. Because our students have various sensory needs, they are empowered to work in their classrooms wherever it is most comfortable for them. For example, if a student has a hard time sitting still, teachers provide him or her with a yoga ball so the student can have movement while learning.
The Graham Academy celebrates the individuality of each student by focusing on the whole child while inspiring each child to be an individual. One of the key factors that makes the Graham Academy so special is the devotion that the professional staff has for educating each student.
To learn more about the Graham Academy, you can call to schedule a tour at any time and/or come to the Open House on October 5, from 3:30-6 pm.
