A hand-painted pisanka egg, black with colorful flowers and the perfect size to nestle in your palm is a gift that Holly Leandri-May, D.M.D. will treasure forever. Made by her "most mature" patient who recently turned 98, the delicate egg signifies the dentist's devotion to her patients and their returned affection for her.
"We're very lucky," she said. "We just have sweet, special patients."
The strong relationship that Dr. Leandri-May and her staff share with their patients sets the practice apart. Many people hate going to the dentist, but the Kingston office, with its friendly personnel and exceptional dentist, offers a pleasant experience.
Dr. Leandri-May speaks highly of her team of five, saying it is "a great staff, very friendly."
"Very often we can't get patients out the door because they are still talking with my staff. We really see our patients as an extension of our family," she laughed.
This caring spirit is rooted in the doctor's dedication to her own family. "My full-time job is a mother; my part-time job is my work," said Dr. Leandri-May. "That's not to say my work isnÕt a priorityÑitÕs just that my kids always come first."
Dr. Leandri-May said the balance is made easier by her patients, who are supportive and make coming to work enjoyable each day.
A growing trend has been toward cosmetic dentistry, but Dr. Leandri-May prefers a family oriented approach that includes all the basics. Her work doesn't stop with the mouth, either. She performs a full head and neck exam to ensure that the patient's body functions properly and to provide preventative treatment.
"There's not much that we don't do, from root canals to extractions to teeth whitening," she said.
The care she shows for her family, her staff, and her clientele, extends into the community as well. During National Dental Month each February, Dr. Leandri-May and her staff visit local schools to teach children about oral care and nutrition.
Dr. Leandri-May graduated from the School of Dentistry at Temple University (recently renamed the Kornberg School of Dentistry), where she received an award for Community Dentistry and chaired the Health and Science Fair. After eight years in a Larksville practice and serving as an instructor at Luzerne County Community CollegeÕs dental clinic, she opened her own practice in Kingston approximately two years ago. |
