When it comes to innovation and good business sense, Ken Bond, the owner-operator of Pierce Street Deli and The Gallery at Pierce Plaza, deserves a prize. His first plan was to open a coffee shop, but he decided to expand the concept into a full-menu delicatessen. Pierce Street Deli has a great variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items; gift baskets; local delivery; and custom catering menus.
About four years ago, Ken decided to expand his establishment to include weekends and evenings to accommodate weddings and private parties.
“I realized it was too nice of a space just for lunches and sandwiches,” he said.
The atrium area became The Gallery at Pierce Plaza, which has since hosted a variety of weddings, and even a Jerry Seinfeld theme party. It also serves venue for political functions, surprise birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, baby and bridal showers, and class reunions.
“We have the right price for any type of party and budget,” he said. “It’s not your typical ballroom. We make our parties and receptions very special–from the ordinary to the extraordinary is our goal. We use waterfalls and ponds and a great atmosphere to complement our menu and service to make each reception and party a unique experience.”
“We hosted a wild game wedding for a couple of big-game hunters,” he added. “We imported elk from New Zealand for the main course and we even added camouflage tableware. We had nothing but praise for our efforts to satisfy the guests.”
Wedding receptions in The Gallery at Pierce Plaza have increased in the past few years. There are some dates still open in 2011, but they book quickly. Packages start as low as $34 per person. Weddings and parties include a full-course dinner, full open bar, hors d’oeuvres, cheese and vegetable display, and more.
Ken has also added a Mother’s Day Brunch.
The success of Pierce Street Deli and The Gallery at Pierce Plaza is due to its great food, service, and Ken Bond’s creative ability, as well as his dad’s great soup recipes. The result is his customers’ immense satisfaction and growing popularity for both venues for daily dining and special events..
