The salon’s many services include hair, skin, nails, massage, tanning, reiki and IET, make-up, jewelry, and hair care products. Owner Donna Kowalczyk, who is president of the Wyoming Valley Cosmetology Association and vice president of the Barbers and Cosmetologists Association, started her business in 1977 but has been at her present location since 1995. She began with only one room, but her business has grown by “leaps and bounds.” Salon at 419 presently encompasses 14 rooms, employs several technicians, and offers seven-day-a-week service.
Donna stressed the importance of ongoing education for both herself and her employees, who were chosen for their experience. She not only attends classes, but also teaches classes to others, including vocational technical teachers. Salon at 419 even provides classes to its customers to address hair, skin, and nail concerns. Choosing quality professional products is of the utmost importance to Donna, and she makes it a point to travel to New York shows to find the best. She purchases several products to sample before choosing the best for her customers. The business is “always evolving” and she is always looking for new, talented stylists.
At Salon at 419 you will receive individual attention in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
“We like to treat our customers as guests,” Donna explained. “And we offer them snacks and beverages like we would a guest in our home.”
In addition to its many services, Salon at 419 offers quarterly specials and give-aways such as trips, concert tickets, and complete make-overs. Donna has also donated to community programs such as WVIA and the American Cancer Society, and hosts job placement seminars for schools such as Wilkes University.
