Profiles In Business Excellence:
Something Special

Something Special is a name that says it all. The combination bakery, café, and catering business that Owner-Proprietor John Clark takes great pride in as he prepares his freshly made in-house menu.

“I start at 3 a.m. every day just to make everything from scratch,” he said. “We have the dedication to serve our patrons with the best menu we could possibly dish up.”

When customers enter Something Special, they experience not only newly made food, but they also experience good service and a cozy atmosphere in a clean and elegant dining area. The walls are adorned with exquisite art works that are produced by featured local artists. Fresh bakery goods are displayed in the bakery showcase and are available for purchase daily.

John is a self-taught chef and baker.

“I took cooking courses at LCCC and Richard Nemetz, a former bakery owner, gave me a lot of great tips about baking, but I also learned a lot about cooking by making meals for myself.”

John is also planning to cater small parties on weekends at his establishment starting later this year.

“We have the perfect place for small affairs, and this is another goal I have for our business,” he said.

Something Special’s catering business includes pastry, salad, sandwich, and quiche trays and desserts.

Desserts consist of just-made 9” double crust or crumb pies, including delicious apple cranberry, blueberry triple berry, and pecan (seasonal). In addition, there is an excellent choice of cheesecakes– plain, strawberry, white chip, key lime, raspberry white chip, peanut butter, and cookies and cream.

Pastry trays consist of filled croissants, cinnamon sticks, cupcakes, assorted cookies, brownies, and biscotti.

Sandwich trays include a variety of cold meats on an excellent assortment of breads.

Something Special, with John Clark at the helm, has a great future in the area. It has all the right ingredients to continue being just that.

     Something Special is open Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturdays, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. .
