We don’t just teach math and reading. We teach a love of learning.
That’s the slogan that Executive Director Tony Mink, B.S., M.Ed., and his wife, Theresa, secretary and treasurer, have embodied since they took over ownership of two local Sylvan Learning Center locations in 2003. Tony has an extensive background in training and teaching, and together the couple is committed to helping students succeed in school and in life.
Sylvan’s services for children from grades K to 12 far exceed “conventional” tutoring. Sylvan offers a very individualized program for each child and also provides all of the required materials. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with a ratio of one teacher for three or fewer students. The child’s program is monitored and updated after each instructional hour. Parent conferences and progress updates are given at 12-hour intervals.
“All of our kids begin the program with a comprehensive assessment,” said Tony. “The assessment determines the exact skill sets that the student does not understand, and a program is then designed to specifically deal with those problem areas.”
The Sylvan program involves four or more hours of instruction per week and can be delivered in-center or online. Free presentations and print articles on a wide variety of educational topics are available upon request to schools, PTAs, and other community organizations. Contact Sylvan for more information on these complimentary services.
The Reading and Math programs include a progress guarantee, and all programs feature a “No Risk” satisfaction guarantee.
Referrals from satisfied families are a very common source of new students, and references and testimonials are available upon request.
Sylvan is also active with community service, routinely donating funds and services to local groups such as public television stations, the Red Cross, and schools.
“Sylvan Learning is a place where children realize all they are meant to be,” said the Wyoming Area Secondary Center student who designed a winning ad for Sylvan.
It would be difficult to say it any better.
