As the owner of the Atrium Restaurant, Debbie Leary uses the words quality, freshness, and consistency to describe the faire she serves at her Market Street establishment. She takes pride in the food that leaves her kitchen, and Debbie’s customers will tell you that it’s her caring attitude that keeps them coming back for more.
Debbie enjoyed cooking and baking at a young age and was greatly influenced by her mother and grandmother. After 18 years of managing and learning all aspects of the restaurant business, Debbie had the chance to buy the Atrium Restaurant from Pat Greenfield, and did so in February 2008. She continues to forge ahead.
If you’re looking for a wholesome, fresh lunch served quickly, then the Atrium Restaurant is your place. Debbie understands the time constraints of her lunch crowd, but she also believes that its members deserve a healthy alternative to the food served in fast-food restaurants. The Atrium Restaurant serves delicious and healthy soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods made from scratch. Debbie uses fresh ingredients, and when the Farmer’s Market opens for business on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, she enjoys shopping there for local, homegrown fruits and vegetables.
Salads are a big hit with the customers. One of the favorites is the Atrium Salad, which is made with grilled chicken served over a bed of greens with feta cheese, cran raisins, and walnuts topped off with raspberry vinaigrette. In addition to the regular menu, the Atrium Restaurant offers daily specials that feature some of the most unique ingredients. The specials are posted each week on the Atrium Restaurant’s website. The Atrium Restaurant offers off-premise catering, and the restaurant is available for parties, showers, graduations, and other special occasions. In addition, Debbie also takes orders for sandwich trays and muffin and cookie baskets.
What began at an early age has turned into a life’s journey for Debbie Leary. She’s always on the hunt for new, innovative recipes. She gathers ideas based on rigorous research and experimentation, and when she’s happy with an idea, she’ll introduce it as a new menu item.
